Guild Of Photographers Qualification Panel

I did it! I’m really pleased to have finally submitted my Qualification Panel and passed!

I’ve been a member of The Guild of Photographers for around five years, initially I was shooting portraits but my photography and business evolved over time into something very different. For quite some time I’ve been feeling the need to push myself more with my photography, I’ve slipped into a comfort zone that I don’t often leave, much as I know a lot of people enjoy what I do I really don’t want to stop growing creatively.

I probably should have done this a while ago but I’ve been conscious that my work is quite different to most of the Guild members. Much as I’m happy to be different I wasn’t sure how the judges would react but it turns out they like different too!

So what does it all mean?

The Guild defines its Qualified status as “indicating professional competence to a level where the Guild is willing to recognise the photographer as an ambassador of the association.” A panel of 21 images is submitted and reviewed individually by five judges, happily all five judges passed my panel.

Below are my 21 images, all taken with Lensbaby lenses, mostly with the Velvet 56 or 85 but there’s also a Burnside and a Sol thrown in too. As far as I can be aware this is the first time anyone has achieved Qualified status with a set of Lensbaby images…Guild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelGuild of Photographers Qualification PanelMy next challenge will be to create a new body of work and pass the Craftsman level, and that really will be a challenge that pushes me way out of my comfort zone in lots of ways!

  1. Janet, These are all delightful: they each tell a story, the colour palette is restrained and the subjects simple and strong. Congratulations indeed!
